College of Animal Science and TechnologyVeterinary Medicine

Studying as an international graduate student here at Shandong Agricultural University has been worthwhile and it is an experience I relish so much. Language barrier was a major challenge for me at the start of my program, but by and by communication became easy especially after attending the Chinese language class. Learning about this country at the ‘Survey of China’ class was interesting and exciting as it revealed the rich culture and norms of China to me. My supervisor is an excellent tutor and mentor. As a young academic in the field of animal science, I have learnt a lot of research techniques both on farm and in the laboratory. The experience of studying and living in Taian, China is what I consider an impactful adventure!

My desire to specialize in agriculture, and in an environment where I can have ready access to state of the art learning facilities brought me to Shandong Agricultural University (SDAU). I have always been passionate about finding solutions to bridge the animal protein supply gap, so I majored in Animal Nutrition and Physiology. SDAU has not only provided an enabling environment for my research and learning, but I also have ready access to Professors in my field, which are easily approachable and always ready to assist. Thanks to SDAU, I have been opportune to participate in internationally organized conferences and training activities. Owing to my desire to integrate fully with my learning environment, my Chinese has improved and my colleagues are always eager to explain on the Chinese cultural values and lifestyle, which I find particularly interesting. It has been a worthwhile experience living and studying at SDAU.

College of Plant Protection

Growing up in an agrarian community in Ghana, I have always been fascinated by plants and my quest to understand these gifts of nature drove me to where I find myself today. Being a tropical country with hot humid conditions, plant diseases are so rampant and affect yield significantly. It is in finding solutions to these problems that lead me to study plant genetics and breeding with relation to plant viruses during my masters. My quest to understand the plant-virus interaction process brought me to Shandong Agricultural University, situated at the foot of the majestic mount Tai with its great history. Under the abled guidance of my supervisor, a renowned Professor in the area of Plant Virology, and other lecturers in the laboratory, I believe I am going to learn a lot. It’s a great privilege to be studying here and looking forward to more adventures in my remaining years in SDAU.
